Of the many gardens, I have wandered,
of the many I have seen,
there's one garden,
that seems hard to search,
one thats restless and unseen,
At times it makes me helpless,
lost and so confused,
its a very different world,
but the colors are so true,
Locked deep inside this garden,
is a cherished little boy,
one I held since birth,
to me, he is my joy,
But inside this garden, there's a window,
that looks beyond our world,
and everything here is a challenge,
that looks new but yet its swirled,
Its almost like, a reflection,
hanging on the wall,
will it make our hearts cling,
or make me want to ball,
Will his garden let us feel,
and touch, and smell, and see,
or will this garden corner us,
and invert that secret key,
where silent words come knocking,
and beg to be a thought,
but lies there tied inside,
and then simply forgot,
Of the many gardens, I have wandered,
of the many I have searched,
this garden holds the secrets,
more mighty than my worth,
Its almost like a picture,
a full breath of life,
and everytime I walk inside,
he shines a brighter light,
Some say they couldn't do it,
it would turn them upsidedown,
but to have the key of life before me,
I simply cannot frown,
The one that seems unreal,
where thoughts are black and white,
it's just another day to me,
and our garden knows what right!

Valerie, this is a lovely way to describe your feelings and difficulty you both must face - a garden with a window - beautiful. |

I know exactly how you must feel. I have a cousin that I used to babysit everyday and he had autism. I loved him dearly. It's been quite a long time since I've seen him. I don't know where he is, or what he is doing. I hope to see him one day and give him a big hug. This is a very special poem to me. It made me think of my cousin and brought back memories. Thanx *S* Cynthia |

Hi Val!
This is so beautiful a poem, I am crying as I read it.
You are one very special person, I am so inspired by you and Nathan. You poetry allows me a tiny walk in your world and it is magical.
Motherhood is so resplendent in you. Many thanks for this beautiful write.
Another poem for a special page on YPDC.

This beautifully written, magical poem has reached me and taught me things I want to know. Thank you for that and for opening the garden gate.
I have epilepsy and also try to promote a better understanding of it in my writing.

Valerie, That took a lot of love and guts to write. I've read it several times and still don't feel I've really "tuned in and got the full signal"
Perhaps one has to be a mother or at least a woman. Great poem.
I have to confess I've been avoiding it for a long time, afraid of the message but it does more than tell a sad story and I'm glad now that I've been there |

These are exceptional children. The love and intelligence inside of them is awe-inspiring. I have worked with them for several years and they always put something special into my heart and soul. I cannot begin to fathom the world they live in, but it is like a beautiful parallel universe to ours. They absolutely amaze me.
Love,
Rita |
