My roots stretch far here
in this darkened soil
too many yesterdays it seems
never enough tomorrows
people once worked and slaved
these fields
their dusty souls still remain
white shadowed shells
traipsing across the furrows
whispers in the wind
always the same
once again
taking claim
ghostly shadows
out on the plains

Nice bit of nostalgia here...I like this part a lot;
"Too many yesterdays it seems, never enough tomorrows..." Nicely done.

Excellent piece of poetry. Those spirits are heard in the wind and will walk the plains forever.

I liked this one too. As much a personal reflection as a comment on place and history. traces of the numinous.
