Foolish Dreams

I once dreamt of an angel and a princess,
Each night I looked forward to my sleep.
These dreams I had kept me happy,
These dreams of mine kept me sane!
My every waking moment was forlorn,
A steep contrast to my dreams, full of happiness.
As each day went on I began to fall,
Fall into a downwards spiral of increasing depression!
My dreams began to torment me,
Tormenting me because they were merely dreams.
All I wanted was my dreams to be true,
I'd have given anything for one true embrace.
With the torment came reality,
My reality is what was tormenting me.
Realisation was slow and painful!
I had dreamt up a reality that could not be,
A reality in which I was free;
Truth was, infatuation controlled me!
Foolish dreams bred foolish desire;
My foolish desire broke my heart.
Dreams full of sheer ecstasy,
Replaced with nightmares of reality.
Love is the work of God,
Infatuation is the work of the Devil!
