My First Sestina (Time)

Contributed by WorthlesSanity666 on Monday, 11th July 2005 @ 02:07:23 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Among people it’s hard to be young
the people, the places, the things they say can be so intimidating.
In our minds and in our feet we differ, for on occasion, I still bounce.
They have all ready discovered things that I still find mysterious.
All of these things cause there to be a great divide,
even if you’re the best of friends, between the young and old.

There is much to be said for being old;
for once we grow, you can never go back to being young.
And once we leap the great divide
it seems like it is much harder to be intimidated,
but life is not exciting and mysterious;
so we grow border and lonelier until we die and your spirits can no longer bounce.

But when we’re still able to bounce
six feet in the air we wish we were old
and knew everything there is to know and nothing was left mysterious.
We think that adults get all the cool stuff when we’re young.
We wish we were bigger so that bully wouldn’t intimidate
us. We’re eager to cheat our way early through the divide.

When changing from little to big, we tend to find ourselves divided.
Our minds tend to bounce
from one extreme to the next and we intimidate
ourselves, eager, yet afraid, to grow old.
Some of us have young spirits in old bodies, and some old in young.
It seems that in that time, most everything is mysterious.

Age is a very mysterious
thing. As we grow older we start to divide
and every time a piece goes away; usually a piece of young.
When we’re further in our years we wish we could bounce.
We think little kids get all the best stuff when we’re old
and are very disappointed to find that we are still intimidated.

All that changes as we age is that who intimidated
us was a co-worker or boss rather than the bully on the playground w/ a mysterious
past who, because no one stood up to him when he was little, is no different when he’s old.
There’s a large divide
between our world and reality and we get to bounce
between the two when we’re young.

When you’re old
you’re stuck in reality and cannot bounce
back to when you were young.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
