Mountain Dust

Contributed by Man_On_High on Thursday, 7th July 2005 @ 07:40:40 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Far up the lonely mountain side
my wandering footsteps led..
the moss lay thick beneath my feet,
the pines bent overhead.
The remnants of a cabin home
lay in the forest.. brave
and shallow, just along the path,
I saw a single grave:

The ivy twisted with the weed
upon the lonely mound..
the solemn stone that stood alone
had fallen to the ground.

I raised it with a reverent hand
and from the earth.. 'twould clear-
but time had stained all words but these:

-HERE LIES A MOTHER DEAR-

I saw the cricket and the snake
from tangled cover dart
and hide themselves amongst the leaves
above the woman's heart..

but undisturbed.. in sleep profound
in stillness there.. she lay.
No casket but the mountain soil
all about her lay.

She sleeps.. no need to question now
if she were wrong or right..
she knows in death.. His cause was just..
Her Lord and Savior's Sight..

She wields no life and love alike-
returns no noble trust...

This Mother Dear along the path,
that lies in mountain dust.

M.O.H.

you truly become king midas whilst you wield your pen...for everything you write surely is gold..this is perhaps your best yet...although selecting a best of yours is undoubtly a most difficult task..here, though, i loved every word - as well as the complete message and scene.

A true masterpiece Dear Billy.

It was like a beautiful movie playing inside my head......very real indeed.

A sad write. Is this just a poem or is your mother really sleeping in peace?

Awesome, just brilliant/
My love.

OMG! Billy this was breathtaking...the imagery beautiful, though the text was saddening there is a sense of calm near the end. You simply are devine. Bravo, my dear.

That was a nice story, I love your flow and rhythm, it really reminds
me of style that just isn't in modern poetry as much. Keep it up, you
painted a beautiful, sad picture.

Beautiful write.. M.O.H.

Do you know who Sir Edwin Arnold is.. American poet. You resemble his style.

Beautiful beginning.

Far up the lonely mountain side
my wandering footsteps led..
the moss lay thick beneath my feet,
the pines bent overhead.

Makes my bare feet feel.
