no way back

Contributed by reprobate on Sunday, 3rd July 2005 @ 05:43:12 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

The child that my father knew
Has long since passed from view
Boxed up and stashed away
A forgotten relic of a better day

He marched away from his world of light
Bent on setting the universe to right
His heart aflame bursting with good intent
Kept trying 'til his last dream was spent

That child's gone, sadly, he's older now
Longing has replaced the dreams, somehow
Yes, the child's vanished, almost without a trace
And some sad old stranger has taken his place

Older, than he should be and seems quite lost
None the wiser I'm afraid, despite the terrible cost
The man that grew in such dire misery
Certainly isn't what the child ever did see

With the tearful, sad passing of what was to be
Those memories are now what the man does see
His longing slowly drags him into his night
And growing darkness overwhelms his fading light

Lines carved in his face from all the lonely tears
Marking always when he succumbed to his fears
Lines of life...these furrows of pain and sorrow
Deeper still because yesterday bought no tomorrow

Are you really open to allowing tomorrow to come in? Or like most of us, have you shut the door to future happiness and love? We do that to ourselves. I am not sure why, but we do.

Reach out to the universe, Michael. Its been reaching out trying to get in. Push aside a little darkness and don't be afraid. Life can only get worse if you let it.

Awesome poem, sir.

Rita

This was sad but beautiful. The last stanza I loved. Excellent write.
Peace,
Laura

my dearest michael, wow! the depth of sad
forlornness is so passionately penned, dark
isolation it seems was in play here, i know
these feelings well, if you had just today
posted this i would be worried, for it breaks
my heart to see, you deserve only happiness,
lightheartedness, and an ever wonder at the
moon and sun, a new enchantment of life,

love n' hugs nessa

p.s. it is so powerful a write...
p.s.s. there is always a way:).
