Wild Week End
When they ask, what will you say;
What did you do this this Saturday?
Did you go to lunch with friends?
Or have a party to attend?
Run a quarter marathon?
Party at the beach til dawn?
Spend the morning at the track?
(did you have to hitchhike back?)
Perhaps you took a college class;
Or planned a picnic on the grass!
Stopped to have your fortune read?
Went to see a girlfriend wed?
Well, the truth be told my love;
I did none of the above!
Week ends are when I invest;
In dedicated laziness!
I devote myself to REST!
Stay at home and do my best;
To read a book and fall asleep;
Paint those toes I still can reach.
Take a blanket on the porch;
To sun and read the mail of course!
Wave at neighbors jogging by,
Hurry, hurry, wonder why...
After ten I did get dressed;
(Jeans and slippers more or less)
Out back with my radio;
Watching weeds and flowers grow.
Lunch is when I multi-task:
Pizza with a bubble bath.
Brushed me first and then the dog;
Curled up with our catalogs;
He’s my week-end’s faithful fella;
(we are snoring a cappella!).
Checked in at YP Dot Com
To read new poems and see who’s on.
Wrote this while you weren’t there;
Yours sincerely, softerware.
