Street-Crossed Lovers
where is she?
it’s been hours;
the wine is warm
and I’ve tossed the flowers.
3.30 she said, 81st and Fifth!
in the distance, near that tree,
some other schmuck like me.
not that it has to matter,
but I hope their luck is faring better…
---------------------
where is he?
it’s like a bad dream;
if he’s stood me up, I’ll scream!
I said 81st and Third at 5.30;
was I being too flirty?
now my bouffant’s flat
and my heels are killing me;
I’m on a weird street,
and I can’t find a taxi!
some jerk is pacing in the distance;
I sure hope they’ve got more sense…
