Warm Words
//
come, gather by the flames;
all the words and phrases,
and the places and the names.
watch them as they crackle,
the raw fuel of desire;
gathered in your wanderings
to heap onto the fire.
licking tongues of brightness,
languorous curlicues;
observances and memories of
pain and all its dues.
sparks of reminiscence,
hot embers in their flight;
joy and love and laughter
giving chorus to the night.
great pops of hidden mysteries,
of light and heat and smoke;
that make life feel so precious,
then reveal it’s all a joke.
entrancing possibilities,
and phrases that engross;
a warmth at a distance,
but burn if we’re too close.
stir the ashes of our discourse,
of words and all their games;
come, share with me your stories,
as we gather by the flames.
