Making a friend
Why am I loved? What is friendship?
You and I are strangers who are searching to see in another, a bit of ourselves.
Friendship must be invited. The heart must be lit; the door ajar.
Perhaps I am loved because I am a willing vessel for your heartfelt concerns;
A blank canvas for the colors of your self image. To befriend you, I am
willing to wait and listen, and you struggle to reveal yourself as we look for common ground.
The reward is permission to find yourself worthy of love and trust.
Armed with the common experiences shared before we met, we begin a bridge between us.
Our paths align just long enough to sustain a sense of connection. And with that
foundation securely in our grasp, we are able to linger to explore our differences.
In time we will see the good and bad of us, and if we stay beyond the ugliness, as if it didnt matter, we may call ourselves friends.
