The Burial
Sweet breath of crisp air
The leaves have fallen again
Cold ground gives way to the piercing shovel
Sweat beads atop a brow
Hard at work before the story even finished
A makeshift wooden box, never rubbed smooth
Fitting, they thought
Wood torn from the side of a decrepit barn
Nails rusted
Pages neatly sewn together
Too much effort was put into this
Tragic
What a waste
Delicately placed upon splinters
Nailed shut
The ground enveloped every inch
Holding it in place six feet under
Where it will deteriorate and become one
Left unmarked, some day it will be forgotten
A lesson learned
