Passage

I said goodbye to the son
and hello to the man;
the journey to this juncture
made me what I am.
I bid farewell to the daughter
and embraced the lady fair;
said adieu to the princess
who was no longer there.
children grow to adults
and yearn to take the field;
sometimes it’s the parents
who refuse to yield.
to always be the guardian,
sometimes their friend or foe
but also a compatriot,
we’ve been there, so we know.
