Highland Homecoming
Sae, Yoo're bach tae th' Eyelands, eh? Ah, aye kent thess day teh coom.
Yeh, ah kent ye coold nae bide aweh'.
Father, I'm not here to stay;
the Highlands have brought my heart to gloom,
I'll na'er forget you in my room,
I'm done, there's nothing more to say.
Yoo'll nae lae wihehy mah wuid!
Aam still yer da, dearnt fehgeh!
I'll pull ye noo oan mah knee
An' shaw ye hoo a cheil acts.
You? A man? Then act like one;
but you aren't, and never were,
How quickly you pretend the past didn't pass,
as if your daughter would come back to you!
Mother's passed, I'm only here to claim
some few trinkets for my lonely heart.
Dohaer, ye dornt ken whih loonly aihs.
Th' Eyelands nae place fur weach loch ye'
Gie yer things, be oon yer waeh.
Ne'er shah-oow mah dooor agai'.
Aam tae tavern fur a pint ur tois.
Be gaihn afair aam bach.
So! Unchanged is life upon the lach,
roiling in your sin and drink-
fear not, Father, your commands
dovetail nicely with my plans.
