Travel Calm
from barfing in the car
on those long holidays,
to lurching ferries pier to pier
on rough and slappy waves.
merry-go-rounds, and tilt-a-whirls
at annual fairs and shows,
left me sweaty and on the skids
—much to the chagrin of my kids.
oh, Dramamine and Travelcalm
thank you for your soothing balm,
as nausea and motion sickness
are quelled by your sure quickness
when my genes make me sick
ginger seems to do the trick;
and even though it is the lesser,
I also champion acupressure.
it’s the middle ear and eye confusion
that sets me up for muddled motion;
those antediluvian bio-mechanics,
amplified by psychogenics.
then the lurching side to side,
back and forth, I can’t abide
up and down, the rolling seas,
green eggs and ham, and then
oh Geez…
when younger I was quite distraught,
never to be an astronaut
or sail the seas from port to dock,
or hold my lunch in a hammock.
life is never close to easy
when merest motion makes you queasy;
so spare a thought for weakness bared,
and (gently) hug the motionally impaired
oh, Dramamine and Travelcalm
thank you for your soothing balm,
as nausea and motion sickness
is quelled by your sure quickness.
