It could never happen to you.
The story that you read below
May not be the way it goes;
If it seems familiar though;
The Enquirer told us so!
Imagine if you only could;
Have all the money that you would;
Dough enough that you could burn it;
Never spend a day to earn it!
It just piles up in the bank;
Bestowing you amazing rank;
Your credit scores pay such respect
That few stand next to you erect!
Charities abound around you;
Those in need have finally found you.
And the only way to hide;
Is to opt to stay inside!
Hire someone to get the door;
Handle phonecalls, mail, and more.
Til you have a full staff giving;
Counting on you for a living!
Friends from nowhere join the throng;
Come to party, drink, and spawn.
Your mail is screened for cash requests;
Things that tick and verbal threats.
Insurance wants the house alarmed;
And security that’s armed;
They have no intent to pay;
For anything that slips away.
Now you have a guarded gate;
Cameras watching guests who wait;
If they fail the staff’s approval;
Friends are subject to removal.
The garage is full of limosines;
Plus folks to drive and keep them clean.
They’ll take you where you want to go;
But you can’t drive one; no, no no!
Doesn’t leave you much to do;
When someone cooks and cleans for you;
Yet every one that you have hired;
Harbors fears that they’ll be fired.
They’re all afraid to speak to you;
You hire someone to do that too.
And although it’s quite essential;
That their friendship’s confidential;
They soon pen a tell-all book;
Publish it on Kindle nook;
You’re villified in black and white;
And not a word of it is right.
Your lawyer knows just what to do;
He advises not to sue;
Says these things are best unfought;
Bills you for his ex-wife’s yacht.
Just to keep you safe from danger;
You live in a house of strangers!
There is nowhere you can go;
Without an entourage in tow.
Except the bathroom or to bed;
(Where the famous are found dead!)
Just the thought keeps you awake;
Sleeping pills fix that mistake.
Look outside and ever after;
You can hear the children’s laughter;
In the sunshine, grown ups jog;
You watch TV with your dog.
Safe, sequestered, staying home;
Protected like the things you own;
With nothing left to do but wait;
Til Death walks silent through the gates.
