MY BACK TO THE WATER, MY BACK TO THE SEA my back to the water
my back to the sea
i'm backing down at sundown
this war was not for me

i have done as was asked
i have fought to the last
though i make ready for surrender
my courage stands unmasked

my back to the water
my back to the sea
i'm backing down at sundown
while no coward do i be

i have done as was asked
i have fought to the last
this war saw much bloodshed
from first shot, to final bomb cast

my back to the water
my back to the sea
i'm backing down at sundown
and if i die, i will die free...
