The Faucet
She hears mom screaming in a short burst
She fears her mother's being hurt or worst
Splashing water runs past the bathroom door
To a five year old girl, it's flooding the floor
She runs crying, trying to save her mother
Who is being drowned by her father
He's holding mom's head under the faucet
He wants her to die and shows no regret
The little girl knows they are both drunk
Otherwise, why would he continue to dunk
Her mother under the water over and over
She boldly strikes her father in his shoulder
A five year old girl's hit carries low impact
Her father isn't even fazed by her brave act
She's determined to find a way to punch
Then solidly kicks him straight in his junk
Her father's surprised by her and lets go
Backing up with pain, he begins to bellow
The child grabs and pulls her wet mother
Out of the water and away from her father
The two cower behind the door in fear
They can hear his footsteps drawing near
Then he just continues to walk on past
Could it be he's regain his senses at last
Throughout the years, the memory returns
Her mother's drowning image forever burns
Many times, she's wanted to ask them why
She couldn't find the words so she never tried
