The Monument
When the heart is aching
and you feel it breaking
you try not to allow the scars
to develop into hatred.
but they do all they can to mask
or suffocate your true feelings
and the scars take the place of the love
you once knew
building an armor so impenetrable
that the slightest touch of healing
seems like it can never break through
the tears that fall
turn to stone
Pebbles of hidden beauty
resembling diamonds in the rough
the more you cry,
the more there are
until you are facing a mound.
it is that seemingly insurmountable pile
of what you thought to be mere rubble
that allows you to climb those walls.
thereby escaping the prison
in which you have been bound.
