French Fields
Stephanus Marcus Book2
Canto 8
Verses 6 and 7
Then James did know from Frankish laity
that brother makes his way across French fields.
Does Richard show strong knight ability
to gain back throne with weak crusader shields?
To see what Sinefred information yields
would be the way to ferret true advice.
Let knight stand Normandy’s duchy of guilds,
Alps, plains man may smell rose and edelweiss.
This warning, brother, I do hope hard may suffice.
“King Richard leaves Cherbourg within a week,
his knights less by half, debarkation be
at Southhampton at night’s dark peek.
This be good information I give thee.”
“Thanks you, Sir Sinefred, know now he will see
the likes of me at Southhampton’s hard quay.
Think we to drive ships straight to deep black sea,
and finis, yea, to great plans I do pray.
For Richard needs have a taste of Normandy’s stay.”
