All That Could Have Been
A part of me still wants to hold onto
This series of photographs in my mind
Before the candlelight betrayed you
Leaving behind a fragile pile of ashes
Still wanting to believe in a monster called sincerity
Holding out for a miracle in an act of futility
As I slowly head back towards the shadows
Gluing together the fragments of all that could have been
Yet the pieces dissolve from ashes to dust
With even the slightest touch of my hand
So imperfectly frozen in time and rife with decay
I'm forced to sit there idle, only hoping to understand
Holding onto to another monster called humility
Yet barricading myself victimized by necessity
Till the foreboding fog lifts from around the mind's eye
Carrying with it the fragments of all that could have been
Till then the candlelight will comfort me from a distance
With a purging glow which dances with a childlike innocence
Making its lupine demeanor blend in with the rest of the shadows
As another face another name dissipates into whispering echos.
