How do I love thee? Let me count the way.
Why must you “take care of me”?
I don’t need that at all!
It feels as if you’re waiting;
For me to trip and fall!
Would that make you feel assured
That I can’t live without you?
What kind of woman would I be
To just love that about you?
Bring me, buy me, get me, take me,
I’m so helpless dear…
You want that on your shoulders?
That’s what you long to hear?
What about you needing me;
For trusting and for sharing!
And someone you can talk to;
When your soul needs baring?
But there you stand, my one-way street;
The hero who’s on-call;
Watching for your entrance cue;
To catch me when I fall.
And here stand I, afraid to trip;
As strong as you, I fear;
Needing what you didn’t want;
Determined not to veer.
I wouldn’t fall; you couldn’t lean;
For such a simple thing---
The place is quiet, and lonely;
We dumped on everything.
