Every time Every time I hear the songs

and sit on my sofa

and I look around this empty room...

Every time I see the dark clouds moving in

and the rain starts to fall

and I close my eyes...

Every time I see the same movies

and walk down to catch the train

and ride the bus,

to the point of no return...

Every time I see that red car

and hear someone call your name

and look out at the sunset

at the stars how they shined for you...

Every time I count down a new year

and sing along to that 80s song

and dance to the strumming of a guitar...

Every time I write a poem

and dream of a better place

and see an open field,

looking out on the passenger side,

and every time I take a drink of whiskey,

a shot to remember

how can I not

the sound of your voice

the crashing of the waves...

Yes, every time I hear the songs

and lay awake on my sofa

I think of you

I think of you, every time.
