Life will keep you
When I was young I wanted to win;
To lead, be right, and escape my kin!
To try my wings, and taste some sins.
When I had children of my own;
I raised them so they/'/d stand alone;
When they were free of me and grown.
And yet somehow I hoped I/'/d be;
included in their families;
The further that they drew from me.
Freedom means we cut our ties;
Live away from mother’s eyes;
Certain we’ll grow worldly wise!
I/'/m old now and know how to lose;
follow; be wrong; and walk in their shoes.
And they can do anything that they choose!
They long to win, to lead, and be right;
To make their mistakes when I’m not in sight;
And I wish them success with all of my might.
