The Longing
Little songbird where have you gone?
The days have grown short and the nights far too long.
I yearn for the spring when I can hear your sweet song.
With the chill of the winter, rushes a sadness to my heart
Each living thing patiently waiting their new start.
So I close my eyes and my thoughts gently drift to the beauty of May.
To the rebirth of the earth and the green fields that lay.
And oh the wild flowers in full bloom just for you
to perch on a branch and sing your song true.
So songbird I will see you soon on that old dusty trail,
Where the sun shines on me and you, feeling the love of God, we never will fail.
