And There He Was
They told me he wouldn/'/t be there
On that bright and festive day
So I went through the motions
Getting ready in the usual way
Hair was styled and pinned
Outfit on and fastened tightly
A bit of lipstick and we were ready to go
Nothing was gonna stop our stunning show
My girls and I took our place
On that shiny wooden platform
We smiled and pranced with rhythm and grace
And all the while I sought his face
I told myself to perish the thought
To press on, and be satisfied with the audience present
And then I was next in line to glide and twirl
Become the picture of a truly blissful, excited girl
And there he was standing in the doorway
Smiling the handsomest smile I had seen in a while
I couldn/'/t help but wave as I exited the floor
And was ecstatic that he returned the greeting
Exactly what I was looking for
