When Bluebells Sing As Bluebirds Flower
When Bluebells sing as Bluebirds flower near
daffodils to sun/'/s kissing love;
When Autumn in her dying color
gives way to icy, snowy shove;
When my mind is done obeying rules
(for others),
ham is on the plate this night,
turkey destined for the fork and
latest electric cutting knife;
Only then, when french toast is relished on
Christmas Eve as tasty as convention/'/s toss,
my mind will enjoy the freedom known
my heart has whispered years is dross.
