~What I thought I knew~

The clouds are trying to smother the moon tonight,
dim her bright light glow.
She keeps brushing them away,
to shine even brighter
behind branches of the grand pine tree.
It reminds me of things
what I thought I knew
at times the realness
tries to cover things over
like the clouds and the moon
reality and fantasy mix together
in life the greatest tricksters.
I feel the realness,
it bites at my soul
as the cold winters night
blows frosty breath across my face.
Transfixed, I stare at the moon
it fights to shine against the black sky
beneath the thickening clouds
that threaten a beating rain.
Now I know and I dont know in real terms
of what I thought I knew.
