If Only

If I could say the things I want
just let my feelings go.
But I keep a tight reign on them..
and always hollar, “Whoa.”
I’m always afraid of hurt,
So I put my feelings on a shelf.
I’m afraid of hurting someone else
I don’t care about myself.
I’m always aware of others
and stepping on their toes.
So I keep my distance
and that’s just the way it goes
But If I dared to let them go
these feelings held so tight?
you’d have to shield those eyes of yours
no sun has shined so bright.
There is no ocean quite so deep
as my feelings locked and bound
nothing quite so savage as my lust
nothing as wild, as this beast
There exists no such wild hound.
So I keep my feelings all locked up
for fear they might break loose
Yes, My heart it stays alone,
a poor and lonely, sad recluse.
If it would not hurt someone,
and I could tell you so..
What a delight it would be
To just let these feelings go.
To tell the world from some high peak
I think I would take flight..
Yes I would soar to let you know
I’m sure I’d be that light.
The heavens would absorb the sounds
and echo on all night
If only something could take my love
and just make it..be all right.
